Daniel Fletcher
Painting & Screenprints
Lives and works in London, UK
London-based painter Daniel Fletcher's large abstract paintings and hand-pulled prints make use of contemporary color stories and authentic, expressive gestures. Fletcher's work has been recently featured in The Strategist and It's Nice That.
STATEMENT
Fletcher’s work is rooted in a desire to express emotion and feeling through the personification of marks and form, constructing animate facial expressions disguised beneath a playful language of the everyday. The artist’s process begins with extensive exploration of composition and color. Working primarily on canvas or paper, his gradual, precise layering pushes the boundaries of silk screen techniques to convey a playful spirit. Drawing on a universal tendency to publicize one’s life, and the insecurities that follow, Fletcher investigates our ability to express emotions through the use of comic icons. Working with the most stripped back components and features of the human face, animate expressions are obscured beneath a façade of soft imagery. The concealment itself mirrors our ability to project visions of happiness through a new visual language.
