Ewelina Skowronska
Printmaking & Drawing
Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan
Drawing from history, mythology, and culture to explore concepts of body, gender, and identities across a variety of mediums, Ewelina Skowronska's works have been exhibited globally in London, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Poland, and Japan.
STATEMENT
“My work is on the edge of figuration and abstraction. I use printmaking, drawings, ceramics, and recently video animation as ways to express my subject matters. By exploring the fundamentals of color, form, lines, and negative space, I focus on ephemeral and unspoken aspects, using a combination of different mediums to produce a unique and powerful contrast. When I explore the interplay between nudity and carnality, I create images on the edge of the figurative and abstract. As a woman who has lived in many different countries, I always keep in mind that on the one side, the body is deeply engrained with meanings and constraints, but on the other hand, as human beings, we have our own experiences of living within; we see the world from the inside and the outside at the same time.” - Ewelina Skowronska
