Above it All

In her latest series, Dreamscapes, Brianna Lance continues to refine her distinctive visual language, a blend of spontaneous gesture and an intricate, personal lexicon of symbols. Lance’s surrealist canvases live in the liminal space between the uncontrolled and the calculated, where chaos dances with precision. Each piece feels like a fevered reverie, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a dreamlike swirl of symbolic forms and elusive figures.

There’s an undeniable sense of tension in these works, as though Lance is testing the boundaries of control, pushing her brush to the edge of unpredictability, yet always reining it back with a deft hand. Through this, she crafts a dynamic interplay between order and disorder, intuition and intention—an exploration of that fragile line where the subconscious and the deliberate collide. Dreamscapes suggests not just a visual experience, but a journey into the labyrinthine recesses of the mind, where meaning is always just out of reach, yet tantalizingly present

In Lance’s words:
“My work is fueled by meditation and the subconscious, using a mixture of repetition and chaos to show how we can find patterns in the chaos internally.  The technique I use whether it is painting, embroidery, or sculpture is pairing a very loose base with intricate and detailed layers on top so each work has the dichotomy of the random and spontaneous with the detailed and the hyper focused. I use detail to put myself into a meditative state when creating the work, as well as a way to create artwork the viewer can linger on and then be taken into the details in the same way as when they were being made. My mission with my work is to document my subconscious and spiritual journey and then share those moments with others through the work. This work is essentially a diary of my soul as I go through life."
