Bartholomew’s Sparkly Lamp

Coffee, ink, watercolor, acrylic, and oil stick on 300lb cold-pressed paper
Caroline Pinney’s paintings strike a balance between raw spontaneity and deliberate composition, merging gestural expression with refined technique. Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, she creates a distinctive color palette layered with textures that carry an almost tactile energy. Her works feel both intimate and bold, rooted in a rich, idiosyncratic visual language.
Pinney’s process is as unconventional as it is dynamic: she works with acrylic, oil, and charcoal, while also exploring experimental materials like coffee stains, ink from natural sources, and spray paint. By layering and sometimes erasing her marks, she breathes life into her canvases, imbuing each piece with an arresting sense of movement and depth that speaks to her connection with both medium and place.

About the Artist
Caroline Pinney
Caroline Pinney is a contemporary figurative artist whose work primarily explores intimacy and human relationships. Since receiving her BFA, the artist has lived in Nashville, Richmond, and is now based in Austin—and is energized by the warmer weather. The landscapes and robust art and music scenes of each city have propelled her curiosity and independence, instilling lyricism and movement into her work. Pinney's work has been featured in Vanity Fair UK and The Scout Guide: Richmond.
