On My Chest, In My Heart
Acrylic on Canvas
This collection of nine pieces is a symbolic completion, honoring balance and timelessness as it mirrors the symbolism of the number nine. In Chinese, the number nine is pronounced “jiu,” which also means “long-lasting.” As the highest single digit, it represents the highest level of mortal happiness, longevity, and good luck. One digit away from the representation of the higher energy, this collection of nine expressive works uses red hues to convey the outpouring of emotion and expressions before a part of someone dies in order for them to be born anew.
In “On my chest, in my heart,” AOTH explores the sense of overflowing emotions breaking through a thick skin built over time — showing your heart on your sleeve. The work elegantly conveys the sense of not wanting to be hidden any longer, and to be honest and open about feelings and desires just as a child does. In the work, AOTH affirms a sense of being unhindered by others’ opinions, and the confidence that accompanies being uninterrupted, and truly herself.

“There is always a piece of me living in these paintings and through my work, I hope people can experience the existence of emotions and embrace their lost time.”
About the Artist
AOTH
Recently featured in Apartment Therapy and Vogue Italia, multidisciplinary artist AOTH utilizes her background in design and architecture to create her dream-like paintings. AOTH’s practice draws on traditions of balance present in Feng Shui. Her gestural, fluid works consider their relationship with the angular, architectural space of both the canvas and the rooms which surround them.
