Ceramic Sculpture
Experimenting with clay has been a process sculptor Lisa Dengler has loved, as evidenced by her new series of elegant ceramic works. Across the “in its raw form” series, Dengler demonstrates the birth of her process, from building up (as opposed to taking away, as one does with stone carving), resting the clay for several days for structural integrity, and above all, letting go of control the moment the clay goes into the kiln. Through learning how to navigate the lack of freedom involved with ceramic sculpture — the clay itself determines where the work needs to be hollow or thick — Dengler continues to learn the language of yet a new material. This unglazed collection is an appreciation of the beauty of clay in its raw form.

“Through the process of creating art, I feel peace and connection to the world. Simply put, for me, creation is meditation. The mind goes blank and the body takes over.”
