Sculpture 5
Handbuilt and painted ceramic sculpture
Sculptor Katie Moore embarks on a new chapter in her artistic journey with a series that blends vibrant color and fluid form in her ceramics. At the start of the year, she focused on oil painting, capturing the hues of her surroundings and the cherished objects in her home. These abstract paintings became a source of inspiration for her latest works for Tappan.
Using the slow, meditative process of coiling, Moore experimented with her clay forms, resulting in a fresh direction that emphasizes openness instead of closure. This change allows her to create stacked forms that transform her ceramics into functional pieces for domestic spaces, that the collector can live with and use in daily life.
Through this evolution, Moore deepens her exploration of how color and form come together, crafting pieces that invite both appreciation and practical use. Her work embodies a connection between artistic expression and everyday life, inviting viewers to engage with her creations in new and meaningful ways.
