Tea Time (Diptych)
Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas
Patchwork Thoughts explores the deep connections between everyday scenes and the structured play of patterns, particularly the checkerboard motif. Each work draws viewers into seemingly familiar, domestic environments where people, animals, and objects subtly intertwine. The recurring checkerboard pattern acts as a symbol of the balance between order and chaos, routine and chance in daily life.
The geometric square patterns that appear in blankets, floor tiles, or vases create a rhythm that captures the complexity of modern life. They serve not only as decorative elements but as visual metaphors for the decisions we face every day—much like the moves on a chessboard.
The series' color palette, dominated by warm earthy tones contrasted with bold accents of black and white, creates an intimate yet energetic atmosphere. The figures in Patchwork Thoughts, often depicted in reflective or quiet moments, seem enveloped by their surroundings, absorbed in inner contemplation. A play between intimacy and abstraction emerges, blending the personal with the everyday.
This series invites viewers to reflect on how patterns—both physical and metaphorical—structure and shape our lives.

About the Artist
Aliya Abs
After becoming a mother, Aliya Abs slowly discovered reduced and linear art for herself, and this preference for contemporary art has been increasing ever since. This development in her work is rooted in Aliya's belief that life itself is easier to understand in a simple form. Abs expresses herself and her feelings through an unmistakable merging between love and melancholy. Often in the form of figures, portraits, and still lifes.
