Human Nature 11
Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper
A logical continuation of Verhoef’s “Inscapes” series, “Human//Nature” investigates the artist’s connection to the natural world and how it influences her sense of identity. The complicated relationship between humans and nature is a common thread throughout her work, and when Verhoef places herself in desolate landscapes, a character arises that wants to connect with her surroundings, but can feel out of place. In this new series, the character seems to move more and more into anonymity, sometimes leaving not much more than a human shape. With an even more minimal visual language and an increasingly geometrical approach to composition, Verhoef aims to emphasize the contrast between the human presence and the natural world.
